3. To split spend per product, run each product in its own OpenAI project and pick that project from the product's data sources.

• This needs an organisation admin key, not the sk-proj… key your application makes completions with. Every /v1/organization endpoint refuses the ordinary key, which is the likeliest way a correct-looking connection fails.
• Spend is attributed by project. Products sharing one project cannot be told apart, so their spend is reported once for the workspace rather than split by guesswork.
• Costs arrive in dollars as a decimal. Saasmetry converts to minor units on the way in — the opposite of Anthropic, which already reports cents.
• Only the first page of the report is read. When OpenAI paginates, the sync says the figure is an under-report rather than passing it off as the whole bill.

Is it safe to paste?

An admin key can manage every project, API key and invite in the organisation; OpenAI issues no read-only equivalent. Saasmetry encrypts it and uses it only to read the project list and the costs endpoint.

OpenAI issues no read-only key, so this credential is broader than Saasmetry needs. Saasmetry only ever reads — but you should know that before you paste it, rather than after.
